‘3R nomination → LG camp roster only rookie’ 153 km Sidearm, will it be the second Jung Woo-young?

The LG Twins, led by new head coach Yeom Gyeong-yeop, are leaving for spring camp in the United States at the end of January.

It is an overseas camp three years after 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic. LG leased the San Francisco Giants Baseball Complex in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA.

Pitcher Park Myung-geun is the only new player in the 2023 season to participate in the LG spring camp abroad. In LG, where pitching depth is thick, the fact that a newcomer participates in the 1st team camp is highly evaluated.

Park Myung-geun was nominated by LG in the 3rd round of the 2023 rookie draft. Park Myung-geun pitched in 13 games (51⅔ innings) at Raongo last year, recording 4 wins and 1 loss with an ERA of 1.21. He had 29 hits, 11 walks, and 68 strikeouts. There was only one home run.

Park Myeong-geun, a sidearm pitcher, is on the short side at 174cm tall, but he throws a fast ball over 150km. He also recorded a maximum speed of 153 km.

The LG scout team said of Park Myeong-geun, “He has a fast ball speed and good power at the tip of the ball. He is an aggressive player on the mound, has excellent crisis management skills, and is a stable player.”

He’s a sidearm pitcher, and he throws a fast ball over 150km. He is a natural rising player. Last year’s hold king Jung Woo-young, wearing an LG uniform. 스포츠토토

Jung Woo-young, with two-seam as his main weapon, recorded a maximum speed of 157 km last year. He appeared in 67 games last year and was active with 2 wins, 3 losses, 35 holds, and an earned run average of 2.64. He won his first hold title in his debut.

Jung Woo-young and Park Myung-geun seem to have many similarities. Jung Woo-young joined LG in the 2nd round in 2019. The 2nd 2nd round is in the same order as Park Myeong-geun, who joined in the 3rd round this year, when the 1st nomination was eliminated.

In addition, Jung Woo-young was included in the 2019 first team spring camp roster when he was a rookie and had experience participating in the Sydney camp. Park Myeong-geun is also leaving for an overseas camp as a rookie this year. However, Jung Woo-young is 193cm tall, and there is a difference of nearly 20cm from Park Myung-geun.

While playing as a bullpen in 2019, Jung Woo-young achieved good results with 4 wins, 6 losses, 1 save, 16 holds, and an average ERA of 3.72 in 56 games (65⅓ innings), and won the Rookie of the Year award. It is noteworthy whether Park Myeong-geun, who resembles Jung Woo-young, will also perform well from the first year of his professional debut.
