Favorites Chilgokcho and Bibongcho beat the odds

After falling short of the top spot at the Association Championships, Daegu’s Chilgok Cho took the first step toward a gold medal in the boys’ competition.

Chilgok defeated Chungbuk’s Bibong 80-53 on the second day of the boys’ U13 event at the 52nd National Youth Games at Ulsan National University Gymnasium in Ulsan on Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the U13 girls’ game at the Ulsan National University of Science and Technology gymnasium, Incheon Yeonhak secured a 36-20 victory over Jeonnam Hongnong, while Gangwon Mancheon secured a 53-34 win over Gyeongbuk Sangsan, holding on to the lead after an early offensive surge.

Seongnam Soo-jeong from Gyeonggi, one of the strongest women’s seconds this season, dominated the game from the first quarter with a flawless performance to defeat Daejeon Gakcheon seconds 96-27, while Seoul Sunil seconds also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 29-18 victory over Jeonbuk Seoil seconds.
