Jeju-Pohang FA Cup semifinal canceled and postponed due to typhoon

The Football Association (FA) Cup semifinal match between professional soccer’s Jeju United and Pohang Steelers has been canceled and postponed due to a typhoon.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) said on the 9th, “The FA Cup match between Jeju and Pohang scheduled for today has been canceled and postponed due to typhoon and safety concerns.” “With Typhoon Kanun heading north, the match has been postponed based on the judgment of the match supervisor due to concerns about safety accidents for players and spectators if the match is forced. The rescheduled date will be announced later.”

Initially, Jeju and Pohang were scheduled to play the semifinal match of the 2023 Hana OneQ FA Cup at 7:30 p.m. at Jeju World Cup Stadium. However, as Typhoon No. 6 Kanun moved north and entered Jeju’s area of influence, the match was canceled due to safety concerns. The previous day (Aug. 8), Jeju explained, “In accordance with the FA Cup Operating Regulations, we are conducting thorough preparations for the match as usual, as discussions on postponing the match will be held depending on the situation on the day of the match.”

On the 9th, Jeju announced on their official social media (SNS), “In case the game cannot be played due to a sudden change in weather caused by a typhoon, we decided to postpone today’s game for everyone’s safety after discussions with the match supervisor, tournament headquarters, and other officials. In addition, we would like to express our deepest sympathy to the away fans of Pohang who traveled a long way.”스포츠토토

With the postponement of the Jeju-Pohang match, both FA Cup semifinal matches have been postponed. Previously, Jeonbuk Hyundai and Incheon United’s match at Jeonju World Cup Stadium on September 9 was postponed due to the scheduling of the Saemangeum Jamboree farewell ceremony and K-pop concert. The concert was moved to Seoul World Cup Stadium due to the typhoon.
