Jung Woo-young dreams of a ‘192cm sidearm’…Busan Go Kim Dong-hoo

Kim Dong-hoo struck out 60 batters and threw four and two-thirds scoreless innings to lead his team to a 6-1 victory over Gangneung High School in the quarterfinals of the 77th Golden Lion National High School Baseball Tournament and Weekend League Wangjung Wang Game at Mokdong Baseball Stadium in Seoul on Friday. It was the first time in 31 years since 1992 that Busan High had reached the final of the Golden Lion.안전놀이터

Kim Dong-hoo was back on the mound less than 24 hours after throwing three scoreless innings on 44 pitches in the quarterfinals against Bae Jae-go the day before. Kim, who didn’t get a chance to pitch at nationals as a freshman, is making her first national tournament appearance and has a 0.00 ERA in four games so far with nine and two-thirds innings pitched.

After retiring 11 straight batters in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead, Kim walked the first batter she faced until the top of the seventh. “The first two games I pitched in this tournament (Round of 32 and Round of 16), I didn’t give up any walks. So I thought, ‘The robot umpire is a good match for me,'” he laughed. The Golden Lions used robotic umpires for the first time in the history of the four major baseball tournaments.

After throwing 104 pitches over two days, Kim Dong-hoo said, “My body was a little sore, but when I got on the mound, I didn’t feel anything.” With only one day of mandatory rest after throwing 60 pitches, Kim will be able to pitch in the final against Sunlin Internet Go on Sunday. “If I have a chance to pitch, I want to go up there confidently and finish quickly,” Kim said.

The 192-centimeter sidearm looks up to LG’s taller (193-centimeter) sidearm Jung Woo-young as a role model. “I want to be a player with a fastball and a good delivery like Jung,” he said, adding that he plans to grow bigger and increase his fastball. Kim still weighs around 70 kilograms.
