KT Wiz rewarded home fans for their support with a three-game sweep.
KT won three games in a three-game series against the Lotte Giants at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on April 20-22 to complete the series sweep and improve their season record to 29-2, 34-0 (0.460).
They also improved to a commanding 9-3 record against the Giants this season, cementing their dominance over Lotte regardless of the outcome of the remaining four games.
What stood out the most in the three-game series was the strength of the starting lineup. KT used three different starters in the midweek three-game series, Yeo Jeong-seong, Young-pyo Ko, and Wes Benjamin, and all three went at least five innings, with Ko, who started on the 21st, shutting down the Lotte offense with seven innings of four-hit ball, five strikeouts, and one unearned run (unearned).
The bullpen was also flawless. The KT bullpen combined for nine innings of two runs (one earned) in the three-game midweek series. Most of the bullpen was solid in close games.
Park Young-hyun, who pitched on the 20th and 22nd, continued his good fortune against Lotte this season, going 4-0 with a save in 10 innings in eight games. Even if you expand the scope to last year, Park’s record against LOTTE is 13 games and 15⅓ innings without allowing an earned run.
The bats have also been flowing throughout the three-game series, especially foreign-born Anthony Alford, who has rebounded this month after a slow start in May, going 6-for-13 with a .462 batting average and two RBIs.
Add to that Park Byung-ho (7-for-4, .571, 2 RBI, 5 walks), Kim Sang-soo (10-for-5, .500, 1 RBI), and Hwang Jae-gyun (11-for-5, .455, 3 RBI), and the rest of the team has done their part.
However, the loss of infielder Lee Ho-yeon, who had a multi-hit performance on the first day of the series, was unwelcome news for KT. Lee was diagnosed with a fractured nose after being hit in the face by a foul ball during the 21st game, and will be focusing on his recovery for the time being. Oh Yoon-seok, who was called up to the first team on the 22nd, and “veteran” Park Kyung-soo are expected to fill in.스포츠토토
On March 23, KT was sitting in last place with 12 wins, 2 draws, and 26 losses (0.316). Within a month, they have climbed to seventh place and are starting to show a 5 percent winning percentage. It’s been a strong summer for KT, and they’re starting to show their mettle once again.
